Post Christmas Day

splurging smiles and switching off rational practicality for a warmth and enjoyment ending the year riding on a surging wave that will wash off the shore for quieter contemplation and receipt of a new revolution of our earth on her axis

I like Christmas. Although I'll still need reminders about the religious significance and roots of this day, the spirit manages to suffuse through colder hearts, dodging quietly under the more garish lights and mall hype, past the thick smell of human crowds holding hands within their own warmth, their own community of hearts and companionship. Although this Christmas was quite a swing between highs and lows, I return wrapped in the soft blanket of good cheer, simplicity of company, food, wine, Taboo.

Once in the night, standing in the playground outside Em's place: the silence settled around us, profound and thick and so...pure, after-rain pure, christmas pure, it seemed to be rebuking our circle of spiralling smoke
